Registration Policy
All athletes / caregivers are required to complete a Special Olympics BC - Richmond Athlete Medical Form in duplicate at time of registration.

One completed Athlete Medical Form is required to be submitted at time of registration to the registrar.

Duplicate Athlete Medical Form is to be kept by the athlete who is responsible to copy and provide the copy to each head coach prior to their participation in that program.
It is the athletes’ / caregivers’ responsibility to advise the local’s Registrar or designate and their head coach(es) of changes to the information on the Athlete Medical Form throughout the program year.
New athlete registrants will be required to complete a Special Olympics BC Registration Form.
Volunteer Registration Policy
All volunteers are required to complete a Special Olympics BC - Richmond Volunteer Medical Form at time of registration and it is required to be submitted at time of registration to the registrar.
It is the volunteers’ responsibility to advise the local’s Registrar or designate and head coach(es) of changes to the information on the Volunteer Medical Form throughout the program year.
New volunteer registrants will be required to complete a Special Olympics BC Registration Form.
Fees Policy
REGISTRATION FEE POLICY
Annual registration fee of $25.00 (twenty-five) is to be paid at the time an athlete registers in the program calendar year, which is July 1st through June 30th inclusive.
GENERAL FEE POLICY
It is at the discretion of the Special Olympics BC - Richmond Board to pay for costs associated with external membership, association or club fees.
Travel Competition Policy
Prior to registering athletes in out-of-town competitions that require extended travel (ie. ferry, bus…) or overnight accommodations, program coaches must submit a budget for all associated competition costs to be approved at the discretion of the Special Olympics BC - Burnaby Board. This policy does not include Regional Qualifier Competition(s), Provincial Games and Provincial Championships
Equipment Policy
Special Olympics BC - Richmond provides all equipment for all programs excluding the following:

All sport specific footwear required for competitions and practices

All ski and snowshoe equipment

Personal use equipment such as jockstraps

Baseball gloves
Uniform Policy
Special Olympics BC - Richmond provides all competition uniforms and practice t-shirts for all programs excluding the following:

All snow program outer wear

Ceremonial walk on track suit and baseball cap

Personal clothing items
At the discretion to the program head coach, all uniforms must be returned at the end of a competition or the program season. For all lost or damaged uniforms it is the athlete’s responsibility to pay for replacement at the discretion of the Special Olympics BC - Burnaby Board.
Regional Qualifiers / Provincial Championships / Provincial Games Policy
Special Olympics BC – Richmond will pay all costs associated to competition registration fees, travel fees, accommodation fees, sundry item fees and meal fees plus all equipment and uniforms required (notwithstanding exceptions under the equipment and uniform policies) for all Regional Qualifiers, Provincial Championships and Provincial Games provided budget is available at the time costs are known to be incurred.
To assist with expenses related to registration, travel, and accommodation costs at Provincial Championship Games and/or Provincial Games, Special Olympics BC Richmond may request financial support from caregivers attending as a 1-1 support worker for athletes.
Factors driving financial support decisions:
a) Number of caregivers required to attend games with athletes, and
b) Financial wealth of Special Olympics BC Richmond at that time.
The Richmond executive will review Richmond’s financial position in the year of Provincial Games selection. If caregiver financial support is deemed necessary, the Richmond executive will determine the financial support amount at that time.
Additional Athlete Training Costs Policy
For all athletes qualified to attend Provincial Games and Championships, National Games and International Games, Special Olympics BC - Richmond will support Richmond athletes with additional training facilities and pay all costs associated for such under the collaborated budget provided by the Local’s Program Coordinator, Program Head Coach, Provincial Head Coach and / or National Head Coach provided budget is available at the time costs are known to be incurred.
Training Costs for Coaches Policy
All volunteers who choose to coach will be allowed access to training with full reimbursement for costs incurred to attend training after course completion with a passing grade. The following are programs that are eligible for reimbursement:

SOC Competition Sport Workshop (2 Days Training)

NCCP Introduction to Competition Part A (2 Days Training)
Coaches wishing to advance to Regional Qualifiers, Provincial, National or International Games must investigate the requirements needed to advance and submit to the Board for approval to take the course and have the budget allocated prior to attending. If approved, reimbursement will be made at the conclusion of the course with a passing grade.
All other training that a coach wishes to take must be submitted to the Board in writing for approval of reimbursement before the course is taken. If approved reimbursement will be made at the conclusion of the course with a passing grade.
From time to time Special Olympics BC conducts sport specific workshops or other programs held throughout the Province of BC. Approval to participate at such programs will be at the discretion of the Special Olympics BC Burnaby Board.
All training is subject to budget being available at the time costs are known to be incurred with priority given to SOC Level 1 first, Sport specific second and all other training third.
